THIS BOOK was written to provide an outline of a piece of research on "Alienation and Women Factory Workers in Kedah, Penang, and Perak", completed in November, 1992. The research was financed by the Population Studies Unit of the Faculty of Economics and Administration, University of Malaya.
Alienation, as a social phenomenon in Malaysia, has not been studied so far. The research instrument, developed with local content as its major focus, is original and can be used in toto in modified form (with written approval from the author) for similar research in different aspects of Malaysian socio-economic life. More importantly, students would be introduced to a local research area and instrument which they could try to use to advance their research interest.
