This book contains a range of carefully chosen topics in thirty chapters relevant to our understanding of science and technology in the modern world, rarely found covered elsewhere. A calibrated approach has been taken to the writing to accommodate a wider community of science readers; the option is left to readers to read any particular chapter in full. In either case, the book contains no heavy mathematics, equations and formulae, thus keeping it more reader-friendly. Boxed texts, appendices, and abundant references are provided in the text to help the more ardent readers gain additional information on a particular topic or sub-topic. The broad sweep of science topics, however, revisits many concepts introduced in classroom textbooks but hopefully now fosters in the reader a better understanding of them in the multidisciplinary context presented here. In crafting the book, the author has drawn inspiration from the immortalized words of Nobel Laureate Marie Curie - NOTHING in life is to be FEARED; it is ONLY to be UNDERSTOOD.
