This book is grouped under four sections: Physical Environment presents the physical, geological and estuarine characteristic of the ares. Intertidal Habitats encompasses the vital intertidal habitats of mudflats and mangrove forest wherein lives microbes, fungi, phytobenthos, mangrove trees, benthic fauna, woodborers, ubiquitous mudskippers, and large vertebrates such as reptiles, birds and mammals. Open Waters and Estuaries deals with the open water body, focusing on primary producers, the phytoplankton and seaweeds, and the major consumers such as prawns and fishes as well as the small infamous anchovy. Pollution in the Klang Strait poses increasingly serious problem to living resources in the area. Resource Valuation gives estimates of the economic value of coastal living resources, that is the market and non-market resources, specially with reference to the Kuala Selangor mangrove forest, and the entire Straits of Malacca.
