Most investigations of diasporic
consciousness in literary texts presume
it is homogeneous. It is essential to
acknowledge that heterogeneity exists in the
literature of diaspora as there are various elements
that influence one’s diasporic experience. There is
a need to address this issue as class, gender, ethnic
groups and culture lead to different encounters,
resulting in a diversity of consciousness and
discovery. This book focuses on the key features
of diasporic consciousness in selected works of
Malaysian Indians writing in English. Through
exploring the ways these texts reflect the setting
of a multi-cultural nation, it hopes to provide a
more nuanced understanding of generational
experiences of the Malaysian Indian community.
