Malaysians are known for their ability to speak more than one language. Hence, it is not uncommon to hear them mixing words of different languages and dialects within one communication context. However, studies which focus on individual Malaysian children and their processes of becoming bilingual or multilingual are far in between despite the fact that most Malaysian children are able to speak at least two languages at any one time from very young. This book is an attempt to showcase the linguistic journey of one Malaysian Chinese child in acquiring the ability to speak Mandarin and English simultaneously. Featuring the sounds which would eventually develop into words, evidence provided are drawn from the time the child was born to until he was two years of age.
