An economy operates as a system of interactions, where industries, households, government and external sectors are inter-dependent. Thus, formulation and evaluation of developmental policies can be effectively assessed by applying general equilibrium techniques. Input-output, social accounting matrix (SAM) and computable general equilibrium model (CGE) are the general equilibrium techniques that are essential and widely used for policy analyses at global, national and regional levels.
This book specifically deals with the construction of SAM database and its modeling analysis. It provides not only methodologies for the construction of a SAM and foundations for SAM analyses, but also basic skills for the development of a CGE model that calibrated using the SAM database. The main advantage of applying SAM-based models is its ability to capture essential interdependent nature of production activities, factors of production, households, government and the rest of the world at disaggregated levels.
